INTERVIEW WITH JONALI KARMAKAR

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jonali Karmakar is a fiction writer and editor with a Masters in English. Writing is not just her passion but her way of dealing with life. She loves being able to escape into the worlds she creates. Everything that she writes becomes a part of her and she wants her readers to know the woman behind those words. She published her first poem while still in high school. Her short stories have found their place in several anthologies. Before turning to writing full time she looked after one of their many family businesses and prior to that she worked as a Medical Transcriptionist. She has been associated with a cause where she taught English to underprivileged kids. Currently she spends most of her time writing and when she isn't doing that, she's either painting or keeping a keen eye on the stock market.  She is an avid reader and loves flipping pages of anything and everything on the table. She feels that reading and writing are the flip sides of the same coin. Writing is her way of communicating with the world.

Let us know more about her.

1) Is there a key person that has inspired you in the process of writing?

  •     Not exactly. I think directly or indirectly all the writers that I read as a child inspired me to write.

2) Describe the role books played in your own life?

  •     I was an introvert as a child and as such books were my best companion. They were my escape and my solace.

      3) Tell us something about your story in 31 sins?

  •     Burning bridges is about a man who has been lied to ever since he could remember. Revelations break him beyond repair and his life falls apart. The sins of the parents always visit the children and that is what happens to Diptesh, the protagonist.

      4) Any message which you will like to give to the readers via your story?

  •    Lies beget more lies.

     5) Any specific tips you have for new Authors who want to make it in the publishing Industry?

  • I’m learning the ways of the publishing industry myself. I feel one should write not for the sake of getting published but for the sheer satisfaction that writing provides.

          6) There are so many Anthologies around. Why to go for “31 SINS”?

  • Certainly there is an abundance of anthologies in the market but “31 SINS” is different because of its theme. Writing about sin isn’t easy because it shows a different facet of life; a facet we are not comfortable to explore. “31 SINS” has dared to do just that.

      7) What genre do you particularly like?

  •   I’m eclectic when it comes to genre.

      8) What are some of the things you like to do when you’re not writing?

  • I like to read and occasionally paint.

      9) “Every one of us is a sinner in some way or other” in these situation how you get out of that regret? Or what one should do to move on with life?

  • Regrets are like lifetime achievements. They never really leave us. But with time we learn to steer clear of the feeling sometimes by trying to rectify our mistake and at other times by neglecting it.

     10) How is the experience with NUMERIQUE PUBLICATIONS till now?

  •   It has been great working with NUMERIQUE  PUBLICATIONS and I’d love to be associated with them even in the future.

     11) How does it feel being an author?

  •   Being an author is what I’ve always wanted. It feels amazing living the dream.

         12) What is your least favourite part of the writing process?
  •    Absolutely nothing. The least favorite part comes later- looking for the right publisher.

THANKS JONALI FOR SPARING YOUR PRECIOUS TIME. I WISH 31 SINS GOES TO THE “BEST SELLER” LIST SOON.

Thank you as well.
